Title: BTU's per species
Post by: fbushaw on July 08, 2015, 09:35:45 AM
Does anyone know where I can find a chart or list of how many BTU's it takes to dry different species?
I do a monthly report that shows Steam per MBF, but we run a mix of species every month, and my manager wants me to try and break it up to how much steam per MBF of each species we are using in a given month.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have attached a spreadsheet.  It will compare on a pound of water removed basis rather than per board foot.  You could get what you are looking for by multiplying the pounds of water removed for a species by  2 lb of steam per pound of water then dividing by the number of board feet to get the expected steam use per board ft.

Send an e-mail to Mike dot Milota at OregonState dot edu and I will reply with the attachment.  I did attach it to the reply, but I do not know how it appears on this website.
