Georgia-Pacific – Rocky Creek is hiring Forklift/Kiln Operators for our Mexia, AL location.  This facility produces a variety of products from southern yellow pine, including dimension lumber, heavy studs, squares/timbers and barn timbers.  Georgia-Pacific’s building product business has consistently been among the nation’s top suppliers of building products to building materials dealers and large warehouse retailers.  Georgia-Pacific employees strive for safety and health excellence while achieving an injury free workplace. The Forklift/Kiln Operator role is an experienced position that supports the sustainability efforts of Georgia Pacific by facilitating the movement of green and dry lumber through the facility.  The successful candidate will create value by ensuring maximum facility uptime to meet production goals, demonstrate knowledge of forklift operations, teamwork, initiative and adhere to all safety standards and codes.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a sit-down forklift to load and unload kilns;
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules, plant rules, policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Keep accurate count of loads going into and out of the kiln;
  • Work collaboratively with other team members ;
  • Ensure a safer work environment throughout the facility by removing debris from warehouse areas.

Basic Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year experience operating a forklift;
  • Current forklift license or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months;
  • Willing and able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed;
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to 12 hours a day;
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations including wearing safety equipment;
  • Willing to promote safe work practices and maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations;
  • Willing and able to lift at least 50 lbs.

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a group to achieve production and quality goals;
  • Basic mechanical skills to recognize needed mobile equipment maintenance;
  • Basic computer skills for data entry.
