Chemical Brown Stain in DF
(1/1)
JMS:
Hello,
We are getting a chemical brown stain in our Douglas Fir that is penetrating deep into the sapwood, and anti-stain does not seem to help. Is there anything that can be done to prevent the staining?
Thanks for any information.

JMS,
The first thing to look at is log supply. Stain is likely if it has been a long time since the trees were felled. Were the logs stored over the summer (in hot weather).
If you are getting this on wood from fresh logs, then start to look at kiln schedule. Are you doing any presteaming? Is the starting temperature high?
