How to deal with planer starvation while performing a redry operation?

(1/1)

TimothyD:
Hi Everyone,

It has been noted that higher productivity can sometimes be acheived by dropping out wet pieces and performing a redry operation, especially for species that might produce a bi-modal drying distribution as indicated in the following reference:
http://www.rnr.lsu.edu/wu/PDFFiles/Postsorting.pdf ("Presorting of Hem-Fir: A Mill Study")

I know however, that some mills have an issue with "planer starvation" that might offset any potential savings in a redry operation.

What are some methods that planer sup's and kiln operators have come up with to deal with planer starvation?

Regards,
Tim
