hot check procedures
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:11:06 PM »
interested in how various ones of us cool kilns down for a hot check.
I know of some that turn the steam off, open the big doors and run the fans for 30 minutes, others that turn the steam off, open man doors and run fans for 10 minutes, and still others that turn the kiln off, open the big doors, and go in immediately.

What is standard?  Anyone aware of specific regulations regarding this?

Hi,

I don't know the standard for hot checks...but what I do know is that it should be standard not to do any hot checks anymore.

I know that sounds like I am the "know it all" type of guy. And I can tell you I am not. But with a proper in kiln moisture measuring or a proper drying schedule simulator hot checks should not be necessary anymore.

Interested to hear what you all have to say about it. Do you feel hot checks should still be part of lumber drying best practice or is it a relic from the past?

Let me know!
